Morning sunrise at the Lake brings to mind the opening words of the song “Morning has broken”. Each day so different, each view new. By the time I write this the view has changed. Looking up: Heron, Mallard, three swans and a line of geese appear as if on Q for my edification. Words fail so often to describe the beauty of creation that all I can do is silently sing words that come to mind.
“God’s recreation on a new day”, another line from the song. Words written by Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965) an English author of children’s stories and plays, poetry, biography, history and satire. She won many literary awards and the Eleanor Farjeon Award for children’s literature is presented annually in her memory by the Children’s Book Circle, a society of publishers.
Then in 1971 Yusuf/Cat Stevens put the chords to the song he found in hymnbook. Steven’s record company didn’t want to release the song as a single due to the religious nature of the song. The single became the biggest seller the company had. Thus, bringing to the pop culture scene of the 1970’s a gentle and spiritual music.
Words and music coming together through the creative musings of individual talents, one might even say playful recreation on a new day. A children’s author and a pop culture icon. What might at first seem divergent or even oppositional some how finding each other and converge to create a new song for the world to hear.
Each day, new and different. Each moment changes on the lake. So too my reflections and thoughts shift as the orange glow of one morning sunrise gives way to haze on another. What might at first seem divergent or even opposite thoughts come together to create the fullness of a life on the lake. Just as the seeming unexpected collaboration of two individuals separated by cultural background came together to create such a wonderful song.
Morning has broken, continues to break anew. Divergent ideas, thoughts, images, musing continue to arise and break into song on days of haze, days of crashing waves, days of joyful bright light always anew. Life on the Lake.
